Weather Map · Effective October 24, 2026
Weather Map shows radar, forecasts, and weather alerts on a map. It has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking. We don’t collect, store, sell, or share your personal information, and we don’t run servers that receive it.
Your location
If you allow it, the app uses your device’s location to show the weather where you are and to put you on the map. You can say no, or turn it off any time in your device’s settings; the app then shows a default place, and you can search for any other.
To get the weather for a place, the app sends that place’s coordinates (your location, or a place you picked) straight from your device to the weather services listed below. The coordinates aren’t linked to your name or any account.
If you turn on Alerts for my location in Settings, then while the app is open it checks the weather alerts and the next two hours’ rain for your location every few minutes, with the same kind of requests, and shows any news as a notification on your device. Nothing is sent to us, and no server sends you anything.
What stays on your device
Your settings (units, map style, and the like) and any places you tag on the map are saved only on your device. They never leave it, and deleting the app deletes them.
Services the app talks to
The weather, maps, and search come from these services. Like any website, each one receives the request your device makes, which includes your device’s internet (IP) address, and handles it under its own privacy policy.
- Forecasts, past weather and averages, air quality and pollen, and the weather maps: Open-Meteo
- Tides: NOAA Tides and Currents
- Airport weather (METARs and TAFs): the NWS Aviation Weather Center, republished by this project's own scheduled job on GitHub, which receives nothing from you
- Wildfires: the National Interagency Fire Center; river gauges: NOAA's National Water Prediction Service; the aurora: NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center (these receive no location, only the area of the map being looked at)
- Place names, observations, and alerts: the U.S. National Weather Service; hurricanes: the National Hurricane Center
- Radar, satellite, and lightning imagery: Iowa Environmental Mesonet (Iowa State University), SSEC RealEarth (University of Wisconsin–Madison), NOAA nowCOAST, and NASA GIBS
- Wind and weather maps: Environment and Climate Change Canada (GeoMet)
- Map tiles: CARTO and OpenStreetMap; satellite imagery: Esri
- Traffic: TomTom
- Search: Photon (komoot), which receives what you type in the search box
- The banner for TV home screens, when it isn't given a place and the TV doesn't know where it is: GeoJS, which works out a rough location (about your city) from your internet address
- Driving routes: the OpenStreetMap routing service (FOSSGIS), which receives a trip’s start and end
Children
The app collects nothing from anyone, children included.
